A. Meeting Business
Our Silent Auction raised $828!! You guys truly rock and make our group great! Money raised in our auctions helps pay for the venue, food, and any special guests.
The Denver ID User Group Web site www.idugdenver.net has received a bit of a facelift. Please check it out and feel free to leave feedback. It should be easier for keeping up-to-date on chapter happenings and announcements for upcoming meetings. The site and the accompanying community forum is the place to go for announcements, job searches, InDesign tips and help, meeting info, and more.
Our auction site is online: auction.idugdenver.net. The items are up there ahead of time, so you can check out what to bid on before the meeting. Anything that doesn’t go in the live auction will be available to bid on online. Instructions are on the site. For the auction items we accept check, cash, and PayPal...please remember we’re official now, so please make the checks to IDUG Denver.
Our future Marketing Committee is starting to take shape with four volunteer offers to help. Jonathan M. "accidentally" volunteered to head it up, so we can’t say no to that offer. If you’re interested in helping us out, please e-mail Erica at admin@idugdenver.net.
Have a meeting topic that you are dying to know about or would you like to do a presentation? Please send an e-mail to admin@idugdenver.net.
B. Presentation
1. JeopID! Gameshow
Guest Presenter: Barb Binder; Gameshow controller: Brian Reyman; Gameshow Host: Jeff Gamet
Barbara Binder is the Principal of Rocky Mountain Training. She has been delivering corporate training as a freelance instructor since 1987, mostly in the Washington, D.C area. She moved to the foothills west of Denver to escape the congestion and the craziness of life “inside the Beltway” in 2005. She has been an Adobe Certified Instructor on multiple programs since the inception of the program in 1997. Adobe Systems recognized her as one of the Top Five Most Highly‐Rated Adobe Certified Instructors, Worldwide for July through December 2007.
Presentation Summary:
Our presentation, showing off various tips and tricks, was done in the format of a gameshow: JeopID! With Jeff Gamet making a cameo as gameshow presenter “Vance Clickendrag,” contestants Lori, Kevin, Erika, Daisy, and Anne answered InDesign questions...all phrased in the form of a question, of course. The categories included Working with Text, Objects, Documents, Output, and New in CS4.
Barb Binder showed examples from many of the questions and explained how many of the tips and tricks worked. She did a great job, even though we forgot to clue her in on the questions ahead of time! Some of our examples really sent the group off on a tangent, but Brian and Jeff kept us focused and got us back on track with the gameshow. There was no Video Daily Double, but we did give away some great prizes, including a subscription to InDesign Magazine, free istockphoto.com credits, and Adobe baseball caps. Thanks to everyone who participated, including the entire group, who came to the rescue when our contestants were stumped.
The second half of the meeting consisted of a great holiday party, where our members could really get to know each other. Many people brought goodies to munch on and we also had a Qdoba Naked Burrito Bar to fill our tummies. It’s always nice to have time to meet other members and get to know what everyone does and what work they’re involved in.
