The April 15th Indianapolis InDesign User Group meeting saw us celebrate our one-year anniversary. We started the new year with more helpful tips from Cate Indiano of DesktopMedia and Jim Cooper, Apsiva Catalog Solutions. The theme of the meeting was repurposing content, specifically, using InDesign tools to simplify the creation of interactive PDFs and HTML web pages.

Cate first gave us some tips on the creation of interactive PDFs, including using the table-of-contents function in InDesign to create bookmarks in your PDF. She also discussed creating hyperlinks, rollover buttons, adding interactive videos, and exporting your InDesign file to an interactive PDF. Once this PDF is created, you can use Acrobat tools to add functionality to the links, buttons, and videos you created in InDesign.

Next, she discussed how to tag your content in InDesign using styles and hyperlinks to define what will become your DIV tags upon exporting to HTML. You can open your newly created HTML file in Dreamweaver and use the DIV tags to create cascading style sheets, which makes it simple to match the look of your website to your InDesign file.

Jim Cooper once again kept us entertained with his clever witticisms while also educating us further in the ways of style sheets and object properties.

To raise money for our chapter, a silent auction was held for the first time. It was a success, raising over $300. The money raised will go toward chapter expenses such as speakers, food, etc. There will be another auction for our July meeting. Watch for information and pricing on more Adobe software!
