Fun. Interesting. Exciting. Informative. Just the way our meetings have always been.

Adobe’s Creative Suite Engineer, Mike McHugh, dropped in to show us what font and type management is all about. We learnt about the various font management softwares available to make our lives easier (a brief overview of these is available in the PDF downloadable at the bottom of this page) and several members shared their experiences with the group. We were also introduced to quirky type websites where you could match a font or even create your own graffiti-style logotypes and texts!

Mike went on to explore font and type in InDesign CS3, starting with demystifying the Find Font dialog box. He demonstrated ways to overcome a variety of typographical problems with handy shortcuts. We also had the pleasure of witnessing the prowess of Adobe Acrobat 9.

Increase/Decrease baseline shift – Alt+Shift Up/Down Arrow
Increase/Decrease kerning/tracking – Alt+Left/Right Arrow
Increase/Decrease leading – Alt+Up/Down Arrow
Increase/Decrease text point size – Ctrl+Shift ./,

(For you Mac people, Alt = Option and Ctrl = Command, but you already knew that.)
