Event Details

We had a great time at the first InDesign User Group meeting of 2009. 114 people came from as far away as Eveleth and Northfield to increase their knowledge of InDesign.

The meeting began with a presentation by Peter Gold (www.knowhowpro.com) on how to use cross-references in InDesign CS3 with the DTP Tools Cross-References PRO plug-in (www.dtptools.com/products.asp?id=crin) and with CS4’s native support for cross-references.

Next, Tom Parker from SoftwareONE (www.softwareone.com/content/aspx?page=120) gave a brief presentation on how Adobe volume licensing works, and the benefits of volume licensing for even small organizations.

Finally, Keith Gilbert, a local design software consultant and educator (http://blog.gilbertconsulting.com), gave a presentation showing the six different ways to copy InDesign content from one InDesign file to another. Keith demonstrated tricks for using Copy and Paste, Move Pages/Load Master Pages, Libraries, Snippets, Placed PDF files and Placed InDesign files. His presentation was based on an article he wrote for issue 25 of InDesign Magazine (www.indesignmag.com). With the permission of InDesign Magazine, attendees were provided with a secret URL where they were able to download a free PDF reprint of the article for a limited time.

The evening concluded lots of great giveaways: loads of software, books, mice, folding rulers, a copy of Cross-References PRO, an Apple Notebook (the paper version, not a laptop!), and even a pair of MP3 sunglasses, provided by Central Coast Solutions (http://centralcoastweb.com), Peachpit Press, and Adobe Systems.

Thank you

Once again, the facility fee for the evening was generously underwritten by MCAD and Central Coast Solutions. Their support is why the Twin Cities InDesign User Group meetings continue to be completely free for registered members.
