Over 200 excited members packed the new SVA Theater on February 19 for the first 2009 meeting of the New York InDesign Users Group.

Chapter Rep Scott Citron kicked off the meeting as usual. He began by thanking those who made the switch to the new venue possible. Most notably, Adobe Systems, for their financial support, and Theater Director Gene Stavis of the School of Visual Arts for reducing their normal rate. Without the help of both parties these meetings would not be possible.

Following Scott's opening remarks, he introduced longstanding IDUG member and noted author and expert, Sandee Cohen. Sandee, who suggested the evening's "Work Smarter" theme, began by showing a number of new features from Bridge and InDesign CS4 that allow designers and production people to shave time from their daily tasks. Among the items covered were Smart Objects, Smart Guides, Smart Dimensions and lots of clever usability tips and tricks and make these new apps a pleasure to use.

Scott Citron also did his part to showcase several of his favorite tips and tricks for working smarter throughout the Suite. Among the best was showing how InDesign files can (as of ID CS3) be placed inside of other InDesign files.

The evening concluded with our customary raffle, which raised over $500 to help support these meetings.
