New York City InDesign User Group
Meeting Notes Archive
June 12, 2007
On Tuesday, June 12th, over 180 people packed the Katie Murphy Amphitheater at FIT for the latest meeting of the New York InDesign User Group.
The meeting began shortly after 6:30pm with some brief announcements by chapter representative Scott Citron.
The first presenter was InDesign expert and soon-to-be author Gabriel Powell. Gabriel, the former Portland, OR, IDUG chapter rep and founder, demonstrated the power of XML (Extensible Markup Language) by showing how simple tagging could be used to repurpose content for a cookbook. Along these lines, Gabriel also showed how XML could be written in any simple text editor and imported into InDesign to create a page of individual business cards.
As a bonus, Gabriel has provided us with an excellent tutorial on XML:

After a short break, InDesign ACE Michael Murphy took the podium. Host of the informative video podcast, The InDesigner <http://www.theindesigner.com>, Michael titled his presentation "Why Go Out?" which was first presented the week before at the NY InDesign Conference. Due to the expanded Effects menu in ID CS3, "Why Go Out?" offered up many clever solutions for creating sophisticated Photoshop-like effects inside of Adobe InDesign.

Michael has also generously provided us with a PDF of his presentation
