Great topic and examples! The CS3 InDesign capabilities are so broad. So much InDesign, so little time. The venue is perfect for the meetings because of the growth of our group.
Attendee
On November 19, 2008, 56 members of the Orlando InDesign Users Group gathered at our new location, The Winter Park Civic Center. Haziel Olivera, Adobe Certified Expert and trainer with the Orlando office of Aquent Graphics Institute, wowed us with new interface and feature details made to Adobe InDesign CS4. "Wow points" included: the ability to export InDesign files and make curled page turning Flash movies of our print layouts for use in web sites. We also learned that Preflight is now real time; looking for bleeds, effective ppi of images, color space, missing fonts and overprinting as we work -- all without slowing down the performance.
We concluded with the ever-popular Q&A time, covering topics from CS4 as well as CS3.
We anticipate that during the year ahead, more ID members will join us for our monthly meetings and programs. It is through your participation in these events that we are able to bring you the high-quality programming you have come to expect. Here’s to a fantastic 2009 and an opportunity to learn more about the Adobe product line.
Happy New Year!
The evening concluded with a raffle of books and software. Thanks once again to our generous sponsors including O'Reilly Media, Markzware, Peachpit Press, and Adobe Systems Inc.

I enjoyed the speaker, especially the interactive InDesign CS4 features and in the new features in InDesign CS4. Thanks.

The presentation was detailed and well-delivered. The questions and answers went very well.
Coming from the Quark and the “print” world, I really appreciate the idea of being able to merge into interactivity with InDesign.
Haziel [the speaker] was clear and well-organized and he knew his product.
Great location, good food, informative, and great prizes.
The next Orlando IDUG meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at the Winter Park Civic Center. We'll cover InDesign Basics with Mark Poulalion and Illustrator Basics with Douglas Mitchell.

Meeting Details
=========================
InDesign and Illustrator have an amazing collection of design and layout features — so many, in fact, that few of us know every one of them.
Come watch as our group's own Adobe Certified Experts, Mark Poulalion and Douglas Mitchell, demonstrate some of their favorites.
Illustrator Training Session with Douglas Mitchell
1 On-board free Illustrator artwork — there are hundreds pieces of clip art, icons, symbols royalty free to use in projects. Find out where to find them, how to modify and export them into InDesign & Photoshop. You DO NOT need to know how to draw with the Pen tool to use this free vector artwork. Please come and see what you can do starting from ground zero.
2 Create infinite color schemes, then save as swatches to use in Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop. Quick-start by defining color schemes using Illustrator predefined color sets (for example, earthtones, foods, metal, nature, corporate, art history). Your project colors will never be the same. This is unquestionably one of the greatest features ever. This alone makes it worth using Illustrator.
3 Take away the mystery — learn the five rules to DRAW with the Pen tool. I have developed a method to explain how to draw Bezier Curves (like Perrier) with the Pen tool to hundreds of students and production staff at all levels, including college level. I can teach anyone how to draw with the Pen tool. Please come, you may give yourself a new career.
4 Free Training Videos from Adobe — buried treasures in Illustrator. I wish to share with you where to find these free Adobe training videos. There is so much you can learn in a few minutes.

Looking ahead: Reflecting our new location and a broader constituency and interest, our group will no longer focus solely on Adobe InDesign. Instead, the group will be renamed the Adobe Creative Suite User Group: Orlando Chapter and will rededicate itself to supporting all programs of the Adobe Creative Suite.
Artists, designers, students, interested professionals or amateurs, print and new media, everyone is invited to this exciting User Group.
Adobe Creative Suite Applications work on both Apple and Windows platforms. Therefore, our user group is non-platform-specific, open to any and all interested; we address very current and topical information.
Our presentations are by industry experts, local designers, authors, and Adobe representatives. We explore their experiences, projects, how they did it, what programs they used and how these programs work. Be sure to visit your member page to check our user group benefits and see examples of topics and meeting notes from our local group and other national and international groups.
Our presentations are informative and focused. There will be answers to questions and you’re guaranteed to discover new methods and means to accomplish new things with your chosen toolset.
If you would like to be a presenter, sponsor, or have a service or product that you would like to share with our User Group, please contact Edward Feldman at efeldman@mac.com
Looking forward to seeing you there,
Edward Feldman, Orlando Chapter Representative
