Event Details

We held our second Vancouver InDesign User Group meeting on Wednesday, June 25th, 2008. The evening was a great success with over 60 members attending. The meeting was held at the Vancouver Film School in their newly renovated theater. Sebastian Distefano of Adobe once again wowed the audience with his knowledge of ID CS3 and demo-god abilities as he showcased Styles with InDesign.

The meeting began with an introduction by Jeff Kew, as he refreshed new and returning members' memories of some of the great online resources currently available:

(new InDesign training)

(new articles)

(a free InDesign training site created by an IDUG Chapter Rep in Australia)

Jeff also used the opportunity to give a plug to an IDUG member's new business and website. Steve Pinter (formerly of Rethink): http://www.jackgriffin.ca/. Jack Griffin provides preproduction planning, photo-shoot management, image retouching, and post-production for commercial photography assignments. So if any members out there are just going out on their own and would like a moment to say who you are and what you do, let Jeff know and he'll ask you to stand.

Sebastian Distefano of Adobe spent the rest of the evening discussing the following styles: Object Styles, Paragraph Styles, Character Styles, Nested Styles, Tab Styles. We actually ran out of time as the VFS people wanted us to go. Sebastian could've talked for hours more. The dialogue that went back and forth with Seb and the members was very lively and everyone put their logic-skills thinking caps on as we dissected nested styles and various ways of implementing them.

We concluded by drawing evaluation forms from a box to give away books from Peachpit and O'Reilly. As well, Andrew Fearnley of Simply Computing (http://www.simply.ca/)gave away an unknown (at the time) prize. The big draw was for 2 copies of Adobe Acrobat Pro v9. The two lucky winners should be receiving their software prizes sometime in August.

Thank You

Many thanks to Adobe for their ongoing and generous support. Without them we wouldn't be having these meetings.
