September 18, 2007

We opened our fall season with more than 150 attendees, reconnecting with InDesign colleagues and friends after a long, hot summer. Over the past several months, many members have upgraded to CS3 and came to learn more about what’s possible.

We started the evening’s program with a presentation by Greg Pisocky, an Accessibility Specialist from Adobe. He showed us how we can make our documents more accessible to people with disabilities, especially those with vision problems. Using tools built in to InDesign and Acrobat, we can make our documents literally speak for themselves. For more information on where to find resources and what you can do to make your documents more accessible, please download Greg’s PDF located below.

Greg was followed by the ever-popular and always entertaining Noha Edell. She took us through some of the new Table capabilities of CS3. She even made them pretty. Using table and cell styles, a little time invested up front can save you hours in production. Nearly everyone picked up her handout, which walked people through table creation and enhancement. The document included a separate keyboard shortcuts page that users can keep in a handy place by their keyboard.

Ken Chaletzky, our chapter rep, did a quick review of a couple of GraphExpo highlights focusing primarily on the new Pantone color system called GOE and a brief discussion of TransPromo documents, a specialized type of variable-data document that InDesign is particularly well suited to handle.
